The Bathurst Estate - Riding in the Park Code of Conduct
Dogs / Bicycles. No dogs or bicycles can accompany riders at any time, under any circumstances.
Bridle Tag. Please ensure you clearly display the provided bridle tag on the bridle whilst riding on the Estate. If you are unable to display your bridle tag, you will be asked to leave. In the event of loss of your Bridle Tag, please inform The Hacking Hub as soon as possible. A fee may be levied to cover the cost of a replacement.
Riding Passes. Riding Passes are not transferable: they are strictly for use only by the registered permit holder personally. The registered pass holder may not loan, share or sell the membership card. Riding Passes (of any kind) are non-refundable. Riding Passes / Bridle Tags are non-transferable but can be used on multiple horses if ridden by the same person. The Bridle Tag is personal to the applicant.
Access Times. Riding is permitted on the Estate between 8am and 5pm.
Horse box parking is provided at Greenhill at Overley (postcode:GL7 7HX) and horse boxes are not to be parked in nearby laybys.
Rider Access. Riders not requiring parking for a horse box are able to access Cirencester Park through the following access points: Overley Road and via the bridlepath in Lower End, Daglingworth as well as Two Mile Lodge.
Permitted Riding Areas and Designated routes. Although riding is permitted anywhere within the outlined red ‘park riding area’ (click here for plan), three designated routes are shown for those that are not familiar with the Park. Although designated routes, this does not imply they are safe and you must still take care at all times. Please report any environmental concerns (ideally with a ‘what3words’ app location reference) to the Bathurst Estate.
Other Users. Parts of the Park and permitted riding routes are also used by pedestrians as a public right of way, ensure that you take extra care in these areas and show due consideration for walkers and their dogs.
Estate Activities. Be aware of farming and forestry activities that are carried out on the Estate throughout the year. For your own safety, avoid going near farm vehicles or Foresters felling or extracting trees. Game rearing and vermin control take place throughout the year, including game shooting throughout the autumn and winter months. Be extremely careful not to interfere with game keeping or shooting party activities.
Unaccompanied Riding. It is recommended you do not ride unaccompanied whatever your level of experience. If you do intend to ride alone, inform a third party of your expected route and time of return. Although the Estate is patrolled day and night, it is irregular, and it could be some hours before help arrives should you have an accident. If you are under 15 years of age you are not permitted to ride out on your own.
Jumping. Do not erect jumps; you may jump any obstacles on the designated routes but at your own risk. You must not use/jump any fences or obstacles that are taped off and/or reserved for events.
Gates. If you come to a shut gate or one that that should be shut, please shut it behind you.
Smoking and Littering is not permitted at any time whilst in Cirencester Park.
Ground Conditions. Avoid contributing to damage to the ground, particularly avoid cantering along grass verges and woodland paths when the ground is soft. Some routes that suffer damage may have to be closed. As of November 2020, there will be no horse access to Overley Wood and access through Hailey Wood will only be available along the same routes as public rights of way.
